Fingerlings which were dispersed include 261,000 tilapia fingerlings to 318 fishpond operators, 50,000 catfish fingerlings to 100 fishpond operators and 36,000 milkfish fingerlings to 60 fishpond operators.
Beneficiaries were fisher folks from the towns of Antipas, Libungan, Magpet, Makilala, Mlang, Pigcawayan, Alamada, Arakan, Tulunan, Matalam, Midsayap, Aleosan, Pikit and Kidapawan City.
Fishery Division Chief Magdalena Gasang said that fingerlings dispersal is part of the aquaculture support services which their office is promoting.
The distribution was aimed at providing initial fish stocks to fishermen for them to strengthen fishing projects in the province.
In addition, the dispersal is expected to boost fish productivity thereby answering people’s need for fish protein.
Meanwhile, OPAg is optimistic that through this, fishpond operators’ income will further increase.
