Cadiz Anchovy Fishery to be Reopened

SPAIN An anchovy fishery in the gulf of Cadiz has been reopened by the government after talks between the ministry and industry set management parameters.

Industry and government ministers concluded talks on Thursday night regarding the anchovy quota limits set on a Cadiz fishing area closed from September last year due to over fishing.

The quota limits accounted for historical catches, ship size and fleet numbers.

Sustainable management throughout 2013 that limits fishing at crucial times of year is the goal of the bill. Fishermen feat that this may lower prices for producers at these points in the season.

The fishery is due to be reopened on Monday 18 February.
