"Aquaculture is the new frontier for growth of our agribusiness," said Mr Helder.
The fish industry generates a worldwide turnover of US$600 billion every year. However, Brazil is only the 12th largest producer in aquaculture.
The goal of the PDA is therefore to help Brazil reach 5th place, with production of 2 million tons per year.
To do this, the PDA will be used to sort Brazilian aquaculture activity in order to take advantage of the 8.500 km of coastline and fresh water available in the country.
With a budget of R$500 million, the PDA will encourage the development of aquaculture in marine waters, tanks and ponds.
It will also develop shrimp farming and farming in the Amazon and semi-arid regions.
