Named the Stew Tweed Fisheries and Aquaculture Scholarships program, they are in memory of Stew Tweed, a long-time Marine Extension Agent for New Jersey.
The annual awards, valued at between $1,000 and $1,500, will be given to one graduating high-school or vocational school senior and one undergraduate or graduate student pursuing studies, careers or research focused on aquaculture or fisheries. Applications will be reviewed in early April by a committee represented by appointees from the private sector, government and education and the scholarships will be awarded in mid-May.
Award recipients will be announced during the NJMSC Annual State of the Shore event on 22 May 2008 ar Sandy Hook.
