Paul Rose

Dr Paul Rose is a lecturer in animal behaviour at the University of Exeter and has recently completed his PhD on the use of social network analysis to assess behaviour and welfare in captive animal populations. Paul is Co-Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Flamingo Specialist Group and Vice-Chair of the BIAZA Research Committee. He is also the research officer for the BIAZA Bird Working Group and for the EAZA Charadriiformes Taxon Advisory Group. Paul has worked in the university sector since 2006 and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Royal Society of Biology accredited scientist. He is an associate researcher for WWT and has is currently implementing a range of research projects to assess the welfare of captive birds. Paul has nearly 20 years’ experience in the zoo industry and as well as a sound knowledge of husbandry and management of zoo animals, he has experience in keeping a range of domestic and exotic birds at home, from domestic waterfowl to wildfowl, various passerines, chickens and parakeets.
