Mike Mitchell, Technical and CSR Director, Young’s Seafood, recently delivered a speech at the first Fishing into the Future workshop in Brixham, Devon.
Fishing into the Future was co-hosted by Seafish and The Prince’s Charities’ International Sustainability Unit, and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales lent his support to the workshop.
The three day workshop brought together active fishermen, fisheries scientists, managers and supply chain experts to exchange knowledge and ideas aimed at charting a course to sustainable UK fisheries. Participants were joined by His Royal Highness on the final day of the workshop as they discussed outcomes and actions.
Mike’s speech “What does values mean and where does it go in the supply chain?” focused on the delicate balance between monetary value and ethical value in the UK fishing and seafood industry.
Mike also explored the importance of trust between consumers and the fishing and seafood industry, and the need to empower consumers with the knowledge of the journey from sea to plate.
Mike commented: “I was very pleased to represent Young’s Seafood Limited and deliver a speech at the first Fishing into the Future workshop. It was great to be amongst so many representatives from the UK fishing and seafood industry, and was an ideal forum for exchanging knowledge and experience between us. There were some very interesting discussions, and I look forward to being a part of taking forward the ideas and actions.”
