Director of Worldfish, Michael Phillips, made the announcement at a presentation to chief minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik on 14 May, reported webIndia123.
Mr Patnaik's office sources said the organisation proposed to use "Genetically Improved Farm Tilapia" for enhancement of fish production in the state.
The major objectivse of the partnership between Worldfish and Odisha are to improve the quality of fish, enhance aquaculture practices through a number of actions like expansion of coastal area ponds, form fish farm clusters in the rim of Chilika and providing international market linkage for Odisha fish.
The partnership will continue for a minimum period of 5 years. The organisation has also proposed to include fish in the overall nutrition plan of the state.
Worldfish is based in Malayasia and has activities in countries like Bangladesh, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar and some other countries. The organisation claimed to have successfully improved fish production in Bangladesh.
