"The Fisheries Act establishes new measures that will restore the state of these resources, including the implementation of management plans involving recovery programmes for overexploited or depleted fisheries," said Under Secretary Fisheries and Aquaculture, Pablo Galilea.
The goal, said Pablo Galilea, "is set in the new fisheries law, which aims for the transparency of the sector."
Of the 33 fisheries, the bream fishery and Spanish sardine (XV-II and II-IV Regions) were found to be depleted, while ten fisheries (V-X anchovy, horse mackerel, hake, hoki and XI-XII VX Regions stripe kite, northern kingclip, Alphonsine, toothfish north and south) are overfished.
Undersecretary Galilee noted that the 15 that are in full operation are managed sustainably.
