Suspicion of ISA at Nordland Fish Farm

30 September 2014, at 1:00am

NORWAY - An outbreak of infectious salmon anemia (ISA) is suspected at the sea site 13047 Vtvika in Vgan municipality in Nordland.

The site is owned by North Salmon farming AS.

All who live and work in the area are being asked to show due care so that the spread of the disease is avoided.

To prevent spread of the disease, the movement of fish without special permission has also been stopped.

The Veterinary Institute notified the Food Safety Authority (FSA) on the suspicion of ISA on the basis of positive laboratory findings for the ILA 26/09/2014. FSA will now take new samples to be sent to the Institute for eventual verification of the disease.

The Health and Welfare of Atlantic Salmon course

It is vital that fish farm operatives who are responsible for farmed fish are trained in their health and welfare. This will help to ensure that fish are free from disease and suffering whilst at the same time promote good productivity and comply with legislation.
