Stolt Sea Farm is one of the world leading producers of turbot (Psetta maxima), delivering 5,000 tonnes to its customers each year.
Available in different sizes, this fish species is mainly destined to wholesalers and retail chains based in Europe, mainly in Spain, Italy, France, Scandinavia, Germany and Switzerland.
Turbot inland farming takes place close to the coast in tanks receiving waters directly from outfalls. A system of pumps distributes the water, which is previously oxygenated, from a catchment pit into the tanks.
The pipe that delivers water to the nursery and pre fattening passes through filters and ultraviolet light, to guarantee high water quality. Every 75 minutes water is renewed in each tank.
A computer system controls every step of the production, not only water parameters but also the feeding phase and any treatment.
Escapes are not possible. During the assessment process the company provided all accurate documents attesting compliance of the farming site management system with FOS standards. The farming sites are ISO 14001 certified. There is no use growth hormones or any other chemical compounds in the feed.
“We know that Friend of the Sea certification represents an important added value for our production and we are proud to have achieved a positive evaluation against all audit requirements. We have received this certification for the third time and it is from 2006 that we are complying with their requirements” comments Mr. Luis Toro Director of Stolt Sea Farm.
