Spanish Ministry of Agriculture Welcomes EU, Madagascar Agreement

Politics

SPAIN - The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment welcomes the continued fisheries agreement between the EU and Madagascar for the next four years, which will replace the current agreement when it expires on 31 December.

This agreement, signed yesterday in the capital of that country, Antananarivo, has a provisional application clause, which ensures the continuity of fishing, once the EU Council adopted the text, pending ratification by European Parliament.

The renewal of the Agreement, for which negotiations have been presented to the General Secretariat of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, will allow 22 tuna vessels, 17 longliners and 52 other EC-flagged vessels to continue fishing in waters, under conditions similar to those currently allowed.
