SPAIN - The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, through the General Secretariat of Fisheries, has managed, after complex negotiations, to reach an agreement for the exchange of fishing opportunities with France.

The agreement will allow the Spanish fleet in non-Spanish EU waters this year to achieve shares of more than 1,500 tons of hake, 1,100 tons monkfish.

The negotiations were initiated late last year and required several meetings and high-level communications between governments to reach an agreement on the exchange of fishing opportunities under conditions similar to those achieved in previous years.

The reason for the difficulty and delay in the conclusion of the agreement has been the lack of contributions to offer to France in return for the fees.
