Sinaloa Leads Shrimp Production in 2011

MEXICO - The state of Sinaloa has registered a record output of 50 thousand tons of shrimp in 2011, making it the main producer of shellfish aquaculture in the country.

This performance was achieved by the development of sustainable fisheries policies that included the application of good farming practices and the certification of laboratories.

Therefore, Sinaloa was theonly area with increased production of shrimp from aquaculture. The production was 30 per cent higher than in 2010, which was 39,604 tonnes.

The states of Sonora followed with a production of 40,679 tonnes, and in third Baja California Sur, with 5,405 tons.
