This two day summit, which is organised and co-ordinated by Seafish in association with organisations in the Humber Seafood Group, will launch on Wednesday evening with an Information Forum. The forum will see a series of key projects presented including Whitefish, WhitefishMall, Northsea Fish, Schools initiative, Norwegian Logistics and Traditional Smoked Fish project.
This will be followed by a screening of Seafish’s Business of Fishing film and an industry networking event. Screenings of Business of Fishing have already been held throughout the UK and Europe, and the film which was based on an initial idea to help improve understanding about the business aspects of fishing and the day to day challenges that vessel owners face, has proved to be a success with audiences.
Thursday’s sessions will include speakers presenting on a range of subjects including seafood sustainability in a global context, industry integrity, reputation, genetic identification, labelling accuracy, transparency and implications for seafood, future opportunities and challenges. The range of subjects has been carefully selected to reflect industry issues bringing relevant and meaningful discussion to the summit.
Paul Williams, CEO of Seafish commented: “We have already received a great deal of interest in the event this year, and many delegates had registered before the programme was even confirmed. We feel that this year’s programme of speakers and presentations address many issues head on, giving the benefit of expert knowledge and a global perspective. We feel confident that attendance figures will continue to rise, ensuring that the event will also present a valuable opportunity for delegates to network, share knowledge and best practice, for the benefit of industry.”
Registration for the event is already open and is proving to be popular. However for those unable to attend the Humber Summit has, for the first year ever, partnered with Panopticon films. Panopticon will capture and record key events and issues from both days, the short films will be shared online, by Seafish, following the event.
