At the opening of the Seminar on the LIFE + INDEMARES "Advancing marine conservation" at the headquarters of the Ministry, Carlos Dominguez has noted how, for more than 20 years, the General Secretariat of Fisheries has worked in the field of conservation for fisheries through the establishment and management of marine reserves.

These reserves, "pioneered the idea of preserving produce and protectong marine ecosystems, while serving as reservoirs to improve breeding and therefore fishing," he stressed.

In this sense, Mr Dominguez pointed out that the LIFE + INDEMARES project, fits into the ultimate goals of the General Secretariat of Fishing "for achieving healthy seas and where Sustainable fishing is an activity ".

Thus, Dominguez explained that the research of ecosystems and species in 10 deep sea areas of this "ambitious project" is being completed, to determine the measures necessary for the preservation of habitats.
