Scottish Mussels: the Celebrity Chef's Choice

Marketing Economics Food safety & handling +3 more

SCOTLAND, UK - The Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group is celebrating after mussels from its farms were chosen by top chef Heston Blumenthal as part of his revamp of the menu of the Little Chef motorway chain.

In the new Channel 4 TV series ‘Big Chef takes on Little Chef’ that begins this Monday (19 January), Blumenthal has been tasked with the job of over-hauling the menu of the iconic restaurant chain. If the new menu proves successful, then the three-Michelin starred chef could see his menu adopted by Little Chefs across the country.

One of the new dishes on his menu is ‘Mussels in White Wine Sauce’, with the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group being selected as the supplier of the mussels.

Stephen Cameron, Scottish Shellfish managing director, said: “We were asked to supply mussels from our farms for consideration and were delighted that ours were selected by one of the country’s leading chefs.

“Mussels are the ideal fast food, they are delicious and easy to prepare, and extremely good for you.

“Our farms range from Argyll to Shetland and this means that we always have high quality and succulent mussels in season. If Heston Blumenthal’s menu proves successful, then this would provide a major business boost for Scottish Shellfish, given that there are about 190 restaurants in the Little Chef restaurant chain.”
