Mark Bucio Mujica, senior officer of SAGARPA, said that the government has invested 15 million pesos to create a laboratory for larval production and an experimental farm to give certainty to the aquaculture sector.
An additional 90 million pesos has also been invested to support aquaculture producers northwest of the country affected by atypical shrimp mortality.
"We do not want bureaucracy, we want immediate actions for an issue that for various reasons had not been answered," said Mr Mujica.
He said the commissioning of the laboratory will help boost shrimp production in the northwest since there will be more disease-resistant species and activity will expand the cultivation of other varieties of seafood.
Mr Mujica said that the establishment of the national advisory committee will give strength to the value chain, from breeding to marketing, as well as actions to be linked with academics and research.
Within this scheme of revival of the aquaculture sector, the National Health Service, Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASICA) specialising in aquaculture will be present and will support laboratories to boost production of high genetic quality fingerlings which are expected for early next year.
Another objective of the committee is the creation of a guaranteed fund for aquaculturists as well as mechanisms to foster insurance in the industry.
