Prawn price action threatened

SONGKHLA - Southern prawn farmers have threatened to block the Tinsulanonda bridge in Songkhla province this week if the government fails to protect them from falling prawn prices.

Kanchit Hemarak, a leader of prawn farmers in Songkhla, said farmers in his province, Phatthalung, Satun, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Pattani would stage a rally near the bridge in Muang district on Friday to demand government assistance.

They will file their demands with Songkhla governor Sonthi Techanant in the morning. If there is no response by afternoon, the farmers will block the Tinsulanonda bridge linking Muang Ranot districts, said Mr Kanchit.

He said farmers' representatives decided to issue the threat during a meeting on Sunday in this southern province.
