Turkey’s largest fish producer, Kılıç Deniz, has just completed the delivery of 1.2 million seabass and sea bream fry to Oman.

In a bid to reduce transport times the $500,000 delivery of juveniles took place largely by air, from the company’s hatchery in Milas, allowing them to reach their destination within 40 hours.

Kılıç Deniz is the biggest producer of marine finfish fry in Europe with an annual production capacity of over 413 million. During the course of 2017 the company has exported six million juveniles to countries including Saudi Arabia, the Dominican Republic and the USA.

“Up until now, we have exported juveniles by sea,” said Sinan Kızıltan, Deputy Chief Executive of Kılıç Deniz. “However, we have recently started transportation by air in order to reach new markets, following interest in live fish from the Gulf countries in particular. We now export juveniles to Tunisia, Oman, the Dominican Republic and Saudi Arabia and currently account for 30 percent of the Tunisian market.”
