Mussel Farmers Step Towards RFID Technology

Technology & equipment Post-harvest

GENERAL - The aquaculture industry, particularly the mussel cultivation, takes its first steps to adopt technology that allow an easy and reliable inventory control and production planning.

SABATE Project aims to create an information system covering the complete crop cycle, from planting to harvest through the intermediate processes like split into two, keeping the stock tracking register at any time, reports MoreRFID.

According to the news organisation, this project has been developed by the Galician company Concepcion Suarez Hernandez , in collaboration with the Systems Engineering and Automation Department of Vigo University, subsidized in part by the Xunta de Galicia INCITE Program.

The improvement and control in the whole process is achieved with the incorporation of RFID tags that identify uniquely mussel ropes keeping updated at all time the inventory, making easier the processes of registering and canceling.

During the last 6 months of testing, the RFID tags on the hatchery respond 100% to the project specification.
