Mexican Trout Production Increasing

MEXICO - Mexico has recorded increased trout production in 2015. Trout farming is one of the most important activities for the economy and development of rural communities.

In 2014, based on statistics from Service Information Agrifood and Fisheries (SIAP), trout production reached 15,695 tons, representing an increase by 2015 of 22 per cent in annual terms.

The trout fishery is conducted in 19 states and is one of the most important fisheries in the country. With this in mind, in 2016 the Federal Government plans to allocate, through the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), more than 500 million pesos to boost aquaculture.
