Marine Harvest Chile: Better Results Than Expected

Post-harvest

CHILE - Marine Harvest Chile got better economical results in 2009 than expected, resulting in an operational EBIT of NOK 91 million (US$ 15.47 million) and representing a 45.83 per cent decrease compared to 2008 results (NOK 168 million or US$ 28.56 million).

According to the CEO of Marine Harvest ASA, Åse Aulie Michelet, the results are an improvement –together with positive outcomes in other divisions- contributed to improved profitability in the whole company, reports FishfarmingXpert.

On the other hand, the reduced harvest volumes in the Chilean subsidiary added to some currency effects caused a significant reduction in the Marine Harvest ASA operating revenues, which decreased from NOK 4,042 million (US$ 687 million) in 2008 to NOK 3,767 million (US$ 640.3 million) last year.

In 2008, Marine Harvest was the second largest salmon producer in Chile with exports for USD 280 million.
