Professor Phil Thomas, Chairman of Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO), said: "On behalf of SSPO, I would like to congratulate Professor Randolph Richards on receiving the CBE. He has played a major role in improving fish health and welfare over three decades.
"Professor Richards, and his team at the Institute of Aquaculture, have supported salmon farming since its inception in the early 80s, representing the industry in government forums, a range of industry working groups and liaison with other relevant stakeholders in all matters related to fish health and welfare.
"He has been scientific advisor to the industry’s trade organisation in its various guises, from the initial Scottish Salmon Growers Association to today’s representative body, the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation.
"The award is fitting recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry’s development in Scotland."
