Invest in fisheries, entrepreneurs told

BRUNEI - The government yesterday enticed young entrepreneurs to venture into aquaculture, seafood processing and fisheries eco-tourism, saying the fisheries sector offers opportunities for investors.

The Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) made this pitch during a dialogue meeting yesterday with the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei (YEAB) as well as participants of the Asia Inc Forum's SME programme.

The meeting, held at the ministry, was conducted in an effort to encourage open and proactive private and public sector cooperation in the country.

The meeting was chaired by Sabri Hj Md Taha, Head of Strategic Development Division, and included representatives of the department and members of the YEAB.

A brief presentation of their roles and functions was presented by the Fisheries Department as well as an overview of fisheries investment opportunities.

A question and answer session followed where YEAB raised issues relevant to the department. A discussion on projects and activities related to fisheries was also conducted.

The dialogue concluded after participants discussed the next steps to be taken to continue boosting private and public sector cooperation.

President of YEAB, Lisa Dato Paduka Hj Ibrahim said that the dialogues have been beneficial to the association's members in helping run their businesses given the information shared by various departments and their knowledge in the number of opportunities available to them
