Formalin is a chemical substance used to embalm bodies.
Accordingly, the Minister has instructed the officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority to conduct country wide raids on fish retailers and wholesalers to verify the authenticity of these allegations as such unscrupulous traders are risking the lives of innocent consumers.
Accordingly CAA officials have collected samples from fish markets and sales points around the country and referred them to the Government Analyst's Department for a comprehensive report.
The Minister said that CAA will take stern legal action against any trader found to be using formalin upon the receipt of report from the Government Analyst.
