The donation should help the access to equipment needed to meet the health quality standard ISO 17025, allowing for the issue of certificates to join the Laboratory Network supported by the National Health (SENASA).
The laboratory, located in the city of Viedma, studies the toxins produced by "algal blooms" (commonly called "red tides") which affect bivalve molluscs and prevent them from being harvested or eaten.
The laboratory also conducts applied research, development and extension with extractors and transfer to current and potential producers of bivalve molluscs. It is the only one that works together with universities in the region and provincial authorities of Patagonia and Buenos Aires in reference to these fledgling productions.
