“The growth in the value of seafood exports is attributable primarily to increased prices for Norwegian Salmon,”explained Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Council.“
In July, the average export price of fresh Norwegian Salmon topped NOK 45 per kg. This is an increase of 10 per cent compared to the previous month.”
Norwegian Salmon exports hit new heights
The value of Norwegian Salmon exports in July totalled NOK 3.3 billion, an impressive increase of NOK 1.1 billion or 48 per cent compared to July last year. This year to date, the value of Norwegian Salmon exports totals NOK 20.7 billion, up by NOK 4.5 billion or 28 per cent from the same period last year. In July, the average price for fresh whole Norwegian Salmon was NOK 45 per kg, compared to NOK 27 in July 2012. As in the previous month, France and Poland were the biggest importers of Norwegian Salmon.
In July, exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totalled NOK 221 million. This is an increase of NOK 99 million or 81 per cent. This year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totals NOK 1.2 billion, up by NOK 289 million or 30 per cent compared to the same period in 2012. The biggest markets for Norwegian Fjord Trout are Russia and Belarus.
Exports of herring down, mackerel up
In July, exports of Norwegian herring fell in value by NOK 97 million or 45 per cent to a total of NOK 118 million. For the year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian herring totals NOK 1.4 billion, a decline of NOK 1 billion compared to the same period in 2012. The biggest markets for Norwegian herring are Russia and Germany.
Mackerel exports from Norway were up in value in July by NOK 12 million to a total of NOK 82 million. This year to date, exports of mackerel have fallen in value by NOK 433 million to a total of NOK 723 million. The biggest markets for mackerel are Russia and China.
Decline in exports of clipfish and salted fish
In July, exports of clipfish fell in value by NOK 46 million to a total of NOK 182 million. This figure breaks down into NOK 89 million for Norwegian Saithe and NOK 79 million for Norwegian Cod, with the remainder accounted for by ling, torsk and other groundfish. The biggest market for Norwegian Cod clipfish is Portugal, with Brazil the biggest market for Norwegian Saithe clipfish.
The value of exports of salted fish including fillets in July fell by NOK 6 million to a total of NOK 33 million, of which NOK 29 million was accounted for by Norwegian Cod. Portugal is the biggest market for salted fish.
Fresh and frozen Norwegian Cod exports up
Exports of fresh Norwegian Cod including fillets from fishery in July increased in value by NOK 6 million to a total of NOK 31 million. Exports of frozen Norwegian Cod including fillets also increased in value in July, by NOK 102 million to a total of NOK 191 million.
