Economics +1 more

FRANCE - The Minister of Fisheries, Bruno Le Maire, met with representatives of the French fishing industry, including President of National Committee for Maritime Fisheries and Marine Farming and Philippe Merabet, President of the Maritime Cooperation.

This meeting was to work with fishermen's representatives on the topics of the fishing sector and modernization efforts made since the implementation of the plan for a sustainable and responsible fisheries (2008-2010).

These exchanges have shown that the marine fisheries sector should continue its modernization in order to cope with the negative effects of volatile fuel prices.

With professional representatives, Bruno Le Maire has decided to set up a national task force on competitiveness of French fishing that will work and deliver proposals on three topics:

  • contracts between the industry and suppliers of diesel in order to fight against sudden changes in fuel prices;
  • energy savings in ships;
  • price formation of first sale and the impact of operating expenses at all levels of the industry.

The working group will consider the proposals of Louis Guedon, Deputy Mayor of Les Sables d'Olonne, Chairman of the Task Force on the sea of the National Assembly on prices and incomes in the area of seafood, and Daniel Fasqulle, Deputy Mayor of Le Touquet, Vice-President of the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, on the renewal of the fishing fleet, commissioned by the Prime Minister last December.
