KENYA - People in the Meru region of Kenya are learning a new method of building fish ponds around their homes not only to have a better balanced recipe but also to generate some income.

Institutions such as churches and health centres have also taken up fish farming, especially tilapia and mud fish according to a report by Peris Wairimu on Africa News.

Fish ponds have aided the region particularly at Christmas time and the people are now complaining that there are no fish left in the ponds during Easter and Christmas holidays.

Net harvesting is the method of harvesting the fish recommended by the fisheries ministry in Kenya, because it is cheap and time saving.
