Fish Farmers to be Legalised in Stages

MALAYSIA: More than 930 fish breeders and shellfish producers in Perak will be able to legally expand their operations. The government has sanctioned 30 year land leasing agreements for fish farming enterprises.

According the The Star, the formula will be used to legalise prawn and fish breeders in the area. It was announced by Perak Mentri, Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali, who said the state had received a lot of queries from other farmers in the area.

The opposition had accused the Government of not doing anything for other farmers who were cultivating illegally on state land, he added.

"We will continue to legalise the farmers, including fish and prawn breeders by leasing out the land to them," he said.

Tajol Rosli said that the 931 farmers at Coldstream and its surrounding area had been given a 30-year land lease to continue farming there. It will enable them to invest in pipe networks and other amenities.
