Export license of 4 shrimp factories canceled temporarily in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH - Export license of four shrimp processing factories in Bangladesh have been temporarily canceled due to the presence of harmful chemicals in shrimps, local daily The Independent reported Wednesday.

The Bangladeshi government on Sunday imposed the temporary ban on the basis of a report of the European Union (EU), according to Fish Quality Control Department of southwestern Khulna district.

The department sources said the EU recently informed the government of the presence of poisonous chemicals Nitrofuran and Metabolite in 22 consignments of 13 shrimp factories.

After conducting necessary examination, the government has taken action against four factories -- Rupsa Fish and Allied, Lockpur Sea Food, Jahanabad Sea Food and National Sea Food.
