Export license of 4 shrimp factories canceled temporarily in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH - Export license of four shrimp processing factories in Bangladesh have been temporarily canceled due to the presence of harmful chemicals in shrimps, local daily The Independent reported Wednesday. </b> <br><br> The Bangladeshi government on Sunday imposed the temporary ban on the basis of a report of the European Union (EU), according to Fish Quality Control Department of southwestern Khulna district. <br><br> The department sources said the EU recently informed the government of the presence of poisonous chemicals Nitrofuran and Metabolite in 22 consignments of 13 shrimp factories. <br><br> After conducting necessary examination, the government has taken action against four factories -- Rupsa Fish and Allied, Lockpur Sea Food, Jahanabad Sea Food and National Sea Food. <br><br> <i>Source: Peoples Daily Online</i>
