Crayfish Fishing Season Now Open

NORWAY - On 6 August the crayfish fishing season opened in most localities. Alongside the opening, the Food Safety Authority is urging fishermen who find sick or dead crayfish to notify the FSA immediately.

Crayfish require special management protection due to the threat they face from crayfish plague, which is fatal to European freshwater crayfish.

The risk of the spread of crayfish plague increases during the fishing season so it is essential that the individual crayfish fisherman take responsibility for disinfection of equipment to prevent the spread of infection, and follow current advice and instructions.

Because of crayfish plague, fishing has been prohibited in the following areas:

  • Halden watercourse downstream Winton locks
  • Glomma downstream Braskereidfoss
  • Store Le
  • Buåa
