Cooke's current lease on the plant will last until October of this year.
"We have an understanding with Cooke Aquaculture officials in terms of how the lease is going to be extended so I don't see any issues there at all," Mr. Barry told The Coaster.
According to the news agency, Nell Halse, an official with Cooke, said recently that while her company is in negotiations with the Barry group, no official decision had been made about how the company would proceed with its Harbour Breton operation.
"Obviously, we're going to have to renew our lease if we're going to continue processing in Harbour Breton," Ms. Halse said. "We are looking at the situation and we are in discussions with the Barry Group but we don't have anything official to announce as of today (Aug. 4)."
Ms. Halse also noted that the company has no intention at this time to remove its aquaculture grow-out sites from the Belleoram area.
