Concerns Raised With Secretary Of State For Scotland

Politics

UK - The Scottish Fishermens Federation (SFF) has met with Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore MP in London to outline key industry concerns.

Issues raised at the meeting, which was attended by Bertie Armstrong of the SFF and Ian Gatt of the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen’s Association, along with Liberal Democrat fisheries spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP and Orkney & Shetland MP Alistair Carmichael, included the forthcoming end-of-the-year negotiations on fishing opportunity for 2011, the ongoing mackerel quota dispute with Iceland and the Faroes, and the recent exclusion of much of the Scottish scalloping fleet from Isle of Man waters.

Speaking after the meeting, Bertie Armstrong said: “This was a useful meeting and the Secretary of State listened carefully to the many issues of concern raised.

“We were particularly encouraged that the Minister recognised the difficulties faced by much of the Scottish scallop fleet following their exclusion from Manx waters and that he would give assistance on the issue."
