“There is a good market for catfish not only in the state, but also neighbouring countries,” said the founder of the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Association (PUBS), Datuk Dr Abang Zaibidin, to The Borneo Post.
Speaking during the launching of PUBS, Miri/Bintulu branch at Pustaka Miri on 27 December, he said the demand for catfish was increasing gradually as more people were beginning to realise the nutritious value of the fish.
He added that the nutritious value of catfish has attracted the attention of a German company, which plans to come up with catfish capsules as a health product.
“A neighbouring country has requested a total of 500 tonnes of catfish per week, but our association is not in a position yet to supply such a large amount,” Dr Abang Zaibidin said.
