Economics +1 more

AUSTRALIA - The Aquaculture Association of Queensland (AAQ) says it is not surprised the value of the industry is expected to jump 15 per cent.

The state Primary Industries Minister, Tim Mulherin, released figures showing almost $14 billion of produce will be generated this year.

Childers-based AAQ president Bruce Sambell told ABC News that this shows the industry has matured.

"I think it's a growing thing. Aquaculture in Queensland has been around for a few decades," he said.

"Now what you're seeing is a level of professionalism and good business practices, good environmental practices, built around a good market for their product."
