Aquaculture, Fisheries Deputy Minister Met with Shrimp Sector

ECUADOR - The Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP) Guillermo Velasquez Moran met with representatives of the aquaculture sector in Carquez Bay for a tour of shrimp production areas.

The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Secretary of Aquaculture, Priscila Duarte and several delegates from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries MAGAP, to examine the current situation of the sector and seek alternative solutions to their problems.

Following the tour, the officials held a meeting with producers from, Jama, San Vicente, Sucre, Tosagua and Esmeraldas.

The Minister addressed the issue of rates and said the purpose is to reverse the shrimp sector through an appropriate management model to strengthen the sector by providing a better competitive control system, monitoring and technical assistance.

Further, he said that the rates charged to shrimp are similar to other productive sectors.

He explained the case of registrations of industrial fishing, which charges a monthly tonnage to reverse the control system monitoring, monitoring of fisheries, among others.

Similarly this applies to fishermen who catch sharks incidentally.

Meanwhile President Miguel Uscocovich shrimp Association of Canton Sucre, San Vicente and Tosagua thanked the authorities and requested which is an extension to extend the deadline to cancel the fee.

He also expressed the belief that the Government is supporting small shrimp producers to conduct business in a responsible manner with the regularisation.
