Aquaculture for all

Aquaculture Europe 2008, Krakow, Poland

POLAND - The European Aquaculture Society (EAS) is organising an international conference and exhibition on aquaculture in Krakow, Poland, from 15 to 18 September.

The theme of Aquaculture Europe 2008 (AE2008), resource management, addresses various aspects of the natural, human and material resources for the sustainable development of aquaculture, for instance, with a view to the European Water Framework Directive.

AE2008 combines a scientific conference with a trade exhibition. It also features special events, including an industry or 'farmers' day', workshops for industry and the AE2008 student forum. Followed by parallel, technical sessions of presentations in the afternoon, thematic plenary sessions will take place in the morning, addressing such topics as:
  • the application of basic research to understand and influence the domestication process;
  • feed sustainability;
  • an overview of progress on closing the cycle of the European eel;
  • the Water Framework Directive and how pond aquaculture manages water resources;
  • economic and social aspects of European aquaculture.
One of the special sessions will also be dedicated to the EU-funded project REPROFISH.
