As part of its campaign to raise awareness of the role of antibiotics in animal health, HealthforAnimals, the global animal medicines association, has published a guide entitled: ‘Antibiotics and antibiotic resistance in veterinary science’. The free guide aims to dispel inaccurate or misleading information.
To further help explain the use of antibiotics in animal health and to objectively outline their important role in ensuring animal health and welfare, HealthforAnimals has also created a new animation entitled: ‘As much as necessary, as little as possible’.
Whilst acknowledging the current issue of antimicrobial resistance, the animation advises the promotion of the responsible use of antibiotics in both animal and human health as the greatest way to ‘future proof’ them for next generations.
As HealthforAnimals’ Executive Director Carel du Marchie Sarvaas explains: “Using antibiotics responsibly, when they are needed, in the amount needed and under the supervision of a veterinarian will help to ensure greater animal health and welfare, provide a safe and secure food supply, and protect the important relationship we have with our pets."
