Dr Carrie J Byron
Marine ecologist, School of Marine & Environmental Programs at the University of New EnglandCarrie is an ecologist who researches the interactions between ocean farms and the environment, with particular focus on low trophic level species such as bivalve shellfish and seaweed. She applies tools such as food web modeling and biodiversity evaluations to determine the carrying capacity of a water body to support aquaculture. She holds a BSc from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD from the University of Rhode Island where she was awarded the Graduate School Excellence in Doctoral Research Award for all STEM areas and a Distinguished Achievement Award. Between her degrees, she served as a Coastal Resources Manager in the Philippines for the US Peace Corps.
