World Bank-FAO To Consider Leasing Out 100 Fish Farms In Bangladesh
BANGLADESH - A joint-review mission of the World Bank (WB) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has recommended leasing out to private operators some 100 fish farms being operated by the Bangladesh government.
"The joint review mission felt that private sector has comparative advantage and some 100 fish farms that the government now operates can be leased out to private operators," the recommendation says.
The review mission lauded the success of the "Fourth Fisheries Project" of the government supported by the WB in increasing fish and shrimp production for domestic consumption and exports.
"Inland open water fisheries are most important for poor communities and will continue to provide major safety net to a large number of rural landless poor where fisheries are concerned," says a WB information note on Monday.
