CANADA - Researchers at the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island and Norway's National Veterinary Institute have teamed up to study aquatic animal diseases.

Centre co-director Dr. Larry Hammell told CBC News that the OIE Collaborating Centre for Epidemiology and Risk Assessment of Aquatic Animal Diseases plans to work with producers, veterinarians and governments from around the world.

It will look at the risks and impact of aquatic diseases on fish and shellfish, and work to keep marine food sources safe at a time when teh world is turning to aquaculture as a source of more food.
