Seafood firms vie for awards

UK - Seafood businesses in Shetland and throughout Britain are being encouraged to take part in the second national Sea Fish Industry Authority Seafood Awards 2007.

The awards will celebrate excellence, enterprise and sustainability across all sectors of the UK seafood industry. Seafish chairman Andrew Dewar-Durie said: "We were delighted with the quality of entries we received for the first Seafood Awards in 2005, which highlighted that innovation and excellence are very much at the heart of our industry."

The bi-annual awards were set up to raise standards and reward the best practice in the seafood business, and cover every sector including catching, aquaculture, processing, retailing, food service and catering. The success of the inaugural awards in 2005 has resulted in a number of new categories for 2007.

These include the Sustainable Future Award for environmental responsibility, Seafood Chef of the Year and the Schools Supporting Seafood Award.
