Punjab govt ups allocation for fish farming
PUNJAB - Punjab government has increased the allocation for fish farming for 2006-07 to Rs 7.5 as compared to Rs 2.5 crore for last fiscal and urged farmers to take up pissiculture as an option to enhance their earnings.
After the success of the 'green and white revolutions', the state was committed for blue revolution and an amount of Rs 7.5 crore had been allocated for fish farming for the year 2006-07, Punjab Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister Jagmohan Singh Kang said today.
He said that during the year 2005-06, a sum of Rs 66.67 lakh had been released as subsidy to fish farmers in the state.
The minister said that in order to breed quality fish in the state, a sum of Rs 34 lakh had been released to modernise the fish seed farms.
