Protect our salmon rivers

UK - In an interview in Norway's Altaposten (19 July), John Fredriksen, the biggest shareholder in the salmon farming industry, stated said he was concerned about the future for wild salmon and that fish farming should not be allowed in fjords with salmon rivers.

"The fish farming industry should be allowed to operate in fjords, but not where wild salmon are present in local rivers," he said.

This is a clear admission that salmon farms are a threat to wild fish.

Will the Scottish Government now act to have all salmon farms removed from migration routes of salmon and sea trout around Scotland's west coast; or will they continue to toady to fish farming interests and preside over the final destruction of our once-famous salmon and sea trout rivers and lochs?
