Minister Expressed Government's Commitment to Controlling the Spanish Fishing Industry

SPAIN - The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Miguel Arias Caete, told the Senate that the control of the Spanish fishing industry was not one of the strengths of the previous government.

By contrast, "this government is committed to it, and it has been made known to the entire sector, in particular the coastal Bay of Biscay that was hurt this year by fines for mackerel and horse mackerel," he assured.

The minister discussed the mackerel fishery and stressed that the approach taken by the Government to exchange part of the Spanish quota with other Member States has been beneficial to the sector.
