Marlborough Aquaculture Going Strong

NEW ZEALAND - Aquaculture New Zealand spokesman Chris Choat said nationally the aquaculture sector had seen continuing demand for its product and is in good shape.

According to TheMarlboroughExpress, aquaculture business, which is part of the seafood industry, contributes more than $126 million to the Marlborough region annually.

"The mussel sector in particular is currently experiencing extremely favourable export conditions. Exporting to 77 countries, the sector is identifying new markets and greater value propositions," Mr Choat told TheMarlboroughExpress.

Aotearoa Seafoods chief executive Sam Hobson said the company was optimistic for the next 12 months, particularly considering the price increases it had endured over the last five to six months.
