The freshwater farm, located next to a river in Githima, Kieni East, destroyed all 4854 fish susceptible after 1034 cases were confirmed.

The farmer observed mortalities after introducing a consignment of imported eggs from Europe into the farm.

OIE has therefore noted that the source of the outbreak is due to vertical spread through infected eggs or gametes.
