Health

ITALY - The Italian veterinary authorities have alerted the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) to a new outbreak of crayfish plague in one wild individual.

The veterinary authority in Italy sent an Immediate Notification to OIE on 26 October.

It reports crayfish plague in European freshwater crayfish of the genus Austropotamobius. One of three wild crayfish found on 30 September at San Leo in the region of Molise in central Italy was found to have clinical symptoms of the disease.

The causative pathogen has since been identified as Aphanomyces astaci.
