Government Support for Fishing in Waters Off Gibraltar

SPAIN - The Secretary General of Fisheries, Carlos Dominguez, has transmitted to fishermen the Government's support of the continued fishing in the Bay of Algeciras and La Linea.

The Secretary General of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Carlos Dominguez, has conveyed "Government support by all means necessary for fishermen to continue fishing as they have traditionally done in this fishery." This has been asserted at the meeting held in Algeciras with fishing industry representatives from the Bay to see first hand the situation of fisheries in the waters near Gibraltar.

The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Algeciras, Ignacio Landaluce, the Government Sub Cadiz and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Civil Guard, Navy, from the Junta de Andalucia and the City of La Linea.

By the affected fishing industry in the meeting were the guilds of La Linea and Algeciras, Algeciras Shipowners' Association, the Andalusian Federation of Brotherhoods and CEPESCA.

After being informed by representatives of the fishermen on the recent developments, Mr Dominguez has expressed confidence "that they are such positive developments in recent days."
